About MAGMA Galleries:

MAGMA is a Melbourne based contemporary art program. It is a gallery and dynamic platform for the promotion and exhibition of the visual arts in Australia. Situated in an iconic architectural setting, originally designed by renowned architect Tom Kovac, the Collingwood space offers a cross cultural, multi disciplinary presentation of art.

 

MAGMA exhibits and represents emerging, mid career and significant contemporary artists throughout the Asia Pacific region. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Gallery Manager to lead daily operations, oversee exhibitions, and nurture relationships with artists, collectors, and the wider art community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•           Exhibition Management: Coordinate and oversee all aspects of exhibition planning and execution, including installation, curation support, and event organisation.

•           Operations: Manage daily gallery operations, including scheduling, maintenance, and inventory management.

•           Sales & Client Engagement: Cultivate relationships with collectors, clients, and visitors; conduct artwork sales and provide excellent customer service.

•           Artist & Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain relationships with artists, curators, and industry professionals.

•           Marketing & Communications: Collaborate on marketing initiatives, including social media management, newsletters, and promotional events.

•           Financial Management: Handle budgeting, invoicing, and financial reporting to ensure the gallery's financial health.

•           Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and manage gallery staff and volunteers.

 

Key Requirements:

•           Experience: 3+ years of experience in gallery management, arts administration, or a related field.

•           Art Knowledge: Strong understanding of contemporary art and the Australian art scene.

•           Sales & Networking: Proven ability to engage with clients and achieve sales targets.

•           Organisational Skills: Exceptional project management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

•           Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•           Tech proficiency: Proficiency in gallery management software, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office.

•           Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including opening evenings and weekends for events.
