NATURE OF NATURE
2 NOV - 3 DEC
"The first marks I make for an image determines its ending; it's a precious moment. Whether or not those marks are apparent in the final formation of a picture, is unknown. Like the growth of a tree, it’s roots may not be apparent, but its character, its nature, will always hinge upon it.
The ‘Nature of Nature’ body of work reflects my immersion in nature and emphasis on light and form. Although my studio and surrounding forest is a consistent environment, the inspiration for my marks, the colour I use, and the physicality of a gesture is in constant evolution.
In my pictures, I try to create systems of both connectivity and boundaries. Recursiveness is a constant theme where forms become entangled. Just like in nature, forming or breaking the motion of form is integral to creating the works own living system. Ultimately, once entelechy is achieved, a picture is done.
A constant theme of this body of work is change. Colour has emerged in my studio with gusto as the effects of the past few years of La Nina become apparent. My environment is bathed in colour and this pallet has entered the pictures. Iridescent and Interference colours are used to reflect the unavoidable reality of shifting scapes."
