Alex Hamilton’s drawings combine a lyrical, yet structured use of color and line, creating dynamic visuals that pulse with energy. His work, rich with illusion and hidden rhythms, invites viewers to explore beneath the surface of static urban environments, revealing underlying realities and coded meanings. By breaking conventional rules of orientation and association, Hamilton offers a futuristic yet familiar perspective that challenges and intrigues.
Since the mid-1980s, Hamilton has exhibited widely, with solo shows in London and New York, and institutional presentations at Edith Cowan University (Perth, 2017), Millennium Gallery (Sheffield, 2017), Kunsthalle Exnergasse (Vienna, 2011), and Tate Britain (London, 2006). He has also participated in major international art fairs like Art Basel (2018), Art Rotterdam (2018), TEFAF (2017), and Art Chicago (2006) and Sydney Contemporary (2024).
Hamilton’s work is held in numerous institutional collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, Saatchi Collection, Victoria & Albert Museum, Tate Library, Baltimore Museum of Modern Art, Denver Museum of Modern Art, and private collections across Europe and the US.
